From Awareness to Action – Tackling Child Sexual Abuse in Europe through Prevention and Collaboration

Child sexual abuse is a pressing issue in Europe, affecting one in five children. This alarming statistic includes experiences ranging from inappropriate messages to unwelcome physical contact and even more severe violations. Every second, child sexual abuse material is being distributed, sold, and viewed online, involving children as young as 3 to 13 years old. This should not be the reality for any child.

Over the past two years, the Child Sexual Abuse Prevention and Education (CSAPE) project has been dedicated to addressing this critical issue through comprehensive sexual education and collaborative efforts across Europe. By uniting five European countries—Finland, Iceland, Greece, Albania, and Bosnia and Herzegovina—the project aims to enhance preventive measures and improve the overall safety and well-being of children.

As we reach the culmination of the CSAPE project, we warmly invite you to participate in our final hybrid seminar on October 30th, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM CET. This seminar represents a significant milestone in our collective journey toward creating a safer environment for children.

Keynote Speakers

• Theresa Ryan-Rouger (B.A., LL.M)

  • Senior Project Officer & Focal Point on Child Sexual Abuse for Missing Children Europe. An international human rights lawyer specializing in online and offline child protection with extensive experience in gender-based violence at international NGO and academic levels. Nominated rapporteur for the Lanzarote Convention (Council of Europe).

• Dr. Olena Ivanova

  • An international researcher and consultant specializing in sexual and reproductive health. She holds a PhD in Health Sciences, a medical degree, and a master's in public health. Dr. Ivanova is passionate about advancing sexuality education globally through evidence generation, program evaluation, capacity building, and advocacy efforts.

• Dr. Miriam Schuler (M.Sc. Psych.)

  • Research associate and clinical psychologist at the Institute of Sexology and Sexual Medicine at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Dr. Schuler conducted her doctoral research on empathy in challenging contexts within the NeMUP research initiative. She also works as a sexual therapist and lectures on sexual disorders.

• Eliza Schlinzig (Dipl.-Psych.)

  • Research associate and clinical psychologist at the Institute of Sexology and Sexual Medicine at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. She coordinates the Prevention Project Juveniles “Just Dreaming of Them” and is a licensed psychological psychotherapist for children and adolescents, providing lectures on sexual disorders.
