Coordinated aid for refugees and migrants in Serbia

Tuesday 8 September 2015

Showers, roofing or setting up the tents in the light of the coming colder weather, separate spaces for mothers and babies, ambulance container and separate playground for children are some of the most urgent needs with regard to the provision of the aid for refugees and migrants, as it was stated today at the press conference held by the coalition Refugee Aid Serbia at the Mikser House. The Coalition is made of the following organisations: Mikser House, Adra Serbia, Sačuvajmo bebe (Save the babies), Ped Medic, Divac Foundation, Catalyst Foundation, GivingBack Serbia, Belgrade Foreign Visitors Club, Asylum Info Centre, with Save the Children joining in the relief efforts for refugees and migrants.

The aid is being distributed in Miksaliste, where food, clothes for adults and children and hygiene items are available for refugees and migrants, as well as paediatric medical assistance twice a week, workshops for children, with available toilets and spots where they can change their phones.

In the same space, Save the Children will, by the beginning of next week, open Child Friendly Space, a space for children where they will be able to play and learn in a safe environment, along with psychosocial support; as well as Mothers’ and babies’ space, where mothers with babies will be able to change and feed their babies and receive hygiene packs for themselves and their babies.

Besides thse two spaces, this week we are equiping Mothers’ and babies’ space in the premises of the Asylum Info Centre and a mobile Child Friendly Space, where our team will be visiting locations where refugees and migrants are temporarily staying, with educational and recreational programs for children aimed at to alleviate children’s trauma caused by such long and exhaustive, often dangerous, trip.
