Safer Internet Day is being marked in many countries of the world today. This year's motto is “Let’s create a better internet together”, and Save the Children in North West Balkan on this occasion publishes an infographic warning that the issue of children’s safety on the internet is being underestimated in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), and documentary movie “Surf s@fely” about its activities in this area during the past years.
Safer Internet Day Committee (SID Committee) is in charge of coordination of joint activities in marking this day in BiH, a body formed in 2011 with aim to implement preventive and promotional activities with regard to protection of children and youth when using information and communication technologies, and whose members are representatives of the BiH Communications Regulatory Agency, NGO MFS-Emmaus, Save the Children, OneWorldSEE and Microsoft BiH.
Marking Safer Internet Day is being organized in cooperation with international organisation Insafe, European network of centres for raising awareness and promotion of safe and responsible use of internet and mobile devices among children and youth and it is only one of many activities these organisation conduct, together and individually, with aim to inform children and parents about risks that comes with internet, as well as how to adequately protect from those risks.
This year, Safer Internet Day is marked in cooperation with partner NGO Centre for missing and abused children (CNZD) from Osijek, Croatia, through joint activities promoting creation of better internet for youth and children. For this purpose, SID Committee BiH and CNZD organized online competition for primary school children from BiH and Croatia on the topic of internet safety. Competition is happening on February 11 from 9:00 to 19:00 hours in a form of an online quiz consisting of questions related to safe use of internet, available at specially created website www.boljiinternet.com. Children can find answers to the quiz questions at the BiH portal for promotion of safe use of the internet www.sigurnodijete.ba. Winners of the quiz will receive appropriate prizes – devices for using internet and communications technologies – tablet, mobile phone and camera.
